The Investigative Journalism Bureau is proud to announce a collaborative relationship with Postmedia that will foster ambitious investigative journalism reaching Canadians across the country.
At a time when the media industry continues to face challenges, the partnership between the IJB and Postmedia is designed to produce journalism of the highest calibre while training the next generation of investigative reporters. The IJB, based at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health and led by award-winning investigative journalist Robert Cribb, produces high-impact, award-winning reporting including the boundary-pushing examination of the shadowy world of clinical trials and a recent in-depth examination of the federal government’s Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program.
“Our collaboration with the IJB aligns closely with our values as a trusted, independent media organization committed to fostering informed communities and a robust national dialogue,” said Andrew MacLeod, President and CEO of Postmedia. “This relationship enables us to support outstanding investigative journalism, empower the next generation of reporters, and strengthen the integrity of Canada’s media landscape.”
The IJB will remain fully independent with Postmedia as its primary publisher, featuring stories across its nationwide network of publications. A rotating seat will be established at the IJB to provide emerging Postmedia journalists with hands-on training in investigative reporting.
“We deeply appreciate Postmedia’s commitment to the critical work of investigative journalism,” said Gerry Gotfrit, co-chairman of the IJB. “Their support enhances our ability to tackle complex, meaningful issues, produce journalism that matters, and provide invaluable learning opportunities for journalism students and early-career professionals.”
Cribb says the IJB’s unique collaborative model, which brings together senior journalists, academics, students and researchers in the public interest, will be amplified through Postmedia’s powerful national and local outlets from coast to coast.
“Together, the IJB and Postmedia will engage Canadians with compelling, in-depth journalism that serves the public interest, holds power to account and strengthens democracy,” he said.
