IJB reporters featured on TVO’s Big [If True] weekly series

By

IJB founder and director Rob Cribb, alongside reporters Emma Jarratt and Stacey Kuznetsova, were featured on TVO Today’s weekly series Big [If True], hosted by Molly Thomas.

The series explores the impact of misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories, and online scams on everyday life. The episode, which originally aired on Sunday, March 22, profiles the Investigative Journalism Bureau as a non-profit newsroom working to fill gaps in Canada’s media landscape while training the next generation of investigative journalists. Cribb highlights the IJB’s collaborative model, which brings together senior reporters, students, and academics to produce deeply reported investigative work in partnership with media outlets across Canada and internationally.

At a time when shrinking newsrooms invest less in resource-intensive reporting, work that is essential to holding institutions accountable and ensuring transparency in the public interest, Cribb points to this approach as a sustainable model that could be replicated across the country.

In the episode, Jarratt discusses her groundbreaking series Privileged and Confidential, which exposed how the Law Society of Ontario withheld public information on lawyer and paralegal misconduct, while Kuznetsova reflects on her work on the international investigation Bad Practice. That series revealed how dozens of doctors have crossed borders to continue practising despite histories of malpractice and patient harm. Together, the investigations highlight critical gaps in public access to information about trusted professionals, at a time when reliable information is more important than ever.
